      To explore the coevolution of coupled soil-vegetation-water system and hidden patterns, forms, and functions of watershed hydrological systems based on in-situ and in-door experiments and comparative studies across different hydrometeorological and landscape gradients; to develop constitutive relations for soil water, ground water, surface runoff generation, and evapotranspiration at interlinked multiple scales (e.g., plot, hillslope, watershed).
